Fees might be applicable for non-statutory services

  • Admin – Form 30 Applications – inquiry by affected person to establish whether his/her name is included in part b of national Child protection register (cpr) in terms
  • Adoptions (investigations) – counselling of the parent of the child and, where applicable, the child.
    • An assessment of a child by an adoption social worker in terms of the children’s act.
    • An assessment of a prospective adoptive parent by an adoption social worker in the gathering of information for proposed adoptions as contemplated in children’s act, act 38/2005.
    • And compiling of an adoption report contemplated in terms of the children’s act, act 38/2005.
  • Adoptions (pre-screening/adoptability) – counselling and investigation of the child concerned in order to establish if he is indeed considered adoptable and screening of applicants applying for adoption if they are considered eligible to adopt a child.
  • Adoptions (screenings/RACAP) – registering screened prospective adoption parents on the register on adoptable children and prospective adoptive parents.
  • Application for the Aged/Rehabilitation – investigation regarding the aged individuals’ socio-emotiional circumstances and application for admission in home for the eldery.
  • Care and Contact/Guardianship – evaluate and recommend suitable care and contact arrangements for children whose parents or guardians share parental rights by providing a report to the children’s court.
  • Counselling (total sessions) – theratpeutic services entailing a helping approach that highlights the emotional and intellectual experience of a client: how a client is feeling and what they think about the problem they have sought help for.
  • Estate investigations – an investigation referred by the court or an attorney in order to determine the circumstances of the deceased next of kins and if they are eligible to the estate left by the deceased.  A report with a recommendation is submitted to court.
  • Forensic investigations – conducting a process of forensic assessments using forensic social work knowledge, techniques and tools in order to compile a forensic social work report with accurate information to establish facts or evidence that can be used in courts of law.
  • General Background Report – an investigation and report focussing on the individual concerned’s background information and current circumstances, including their housing, employment, financial, physical and psychological health and religious cirmumstances.
  • Mediations (total sessions) – services as a neutral intermediary, the mediator, helps the parties to reach a mutually satisfactory settlement of their dispute. Any settlement is recorded in an enforceable contract
  • Origin Enquiries – assistance with the tracing of biological parents or adopted child/ren when the contact is in the individual’s best interest and facilitating the first contact.
  • Parental Guidance – presenting of parental guidance programmed in order to ensure warm, consistent parenting where parents have good relationships with their children, use non-violent forms of discipline, and exercise supervision over their children as appropriate to their developmental stage
  • Parenting Plans – compiling an agreement usually after mediation session(s) that establishes the cooperative parenting arrangement between two parents of children which is subitted to court and made an order of the court.
  • Services to the elderly / Wellness investigation – investigtion regarding the well-being of an elderey person and providing a progress report in this regard to meaningful others.
  • Socio-emotional assessment – conducting an assessment focuses on social & emotional dynamics that are important in understanding an individual’s growth and/or difficulties that may be present. It is often referred to as a personality assessment
  • Socio-emotional reports – compiling a report regarding the findings of an emotional assessment conducted.
  • Supervised visits – supervision of visitation between children and a parent, when a parent is permitted to spend time with a child only when someone can supervise their interactions.
  • Support Group – the establishment and facilitating of a group where a gathering of people facing common issues share what’s troubling them. Through the sharing of experiences, they’re able to offer support, encouragement, and comfort to the other group members, and receive the same in

Rata Social Services NPC is registered as a Child Protection Organization, NPO and NGO, that strives to safeguard children against all forms of abuse.  Our overall focus is therefore the protection of vulnerable individuals, families and communities and our statutory work and upliftment programs aim to create healthy communities.  Rata is also accredited to render adoption services.

Our organization consists of 15 offices and 13 satellite offices in the provinces of Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West, South Africa.  Each office individually sets objectives and delivers services according to the needs of the community.  Business plans and progress reports are presented to the Department of Social Development.  Individual Business Plans and Progress Reports are available on request. 

Our workforce of 70+ people includes Social workers, Social auxiliary workers, Volunteers and Administrative personnel.  The majority of our services include the protection of children in the form of representation at court proceedings, foster care placements, reunification services, parenting plans, teenage pregnancies and adoptions.  Other services include assistance to drug and alcohol abusers, abused women, the disabled and elderly and poverty alleviation.
