During the past week a family of twelve lost their home, a shack, due to a fire. The fire was caused by a power surge after a power outage in the area they live.

The family consists of twelve members. Six of the family members are children between the ages of 6 and 14 years.

The family lives in Hlalanikahle Extension 1, which are not in Rata’s work area but in Child Welfare’s workarea.

Child Welfare was unable to assist the family and referred them to Rata Social Services for assistance.

Ms Lovette Sibiya, Social Auxiliary Worker, stepped in and donated blankets, clothing and food items to a very thankful client.

This proves again that at Rata Witbank we have the well-being of the community at heart.
