Goeiedag.

Alphonso jou gesondheid is prioriteit.

Rata groete

We dare you!

Are you up to a huge challenge? Before the opportunity is gone forever?

Have you heard of The Munga? The Munga is a monster – one of the most difficult ultramarathons for mountain bikes in the world! The participants must cover about 1 130 km between Bloemfontein and Wellington in 5 days! There are 5 towns and 10 water points along the route where the riders can resupply, but due to the vast distances and the gruelling Karoo, all riders are largely left to their own resources. The race makes enormous physical and mental demands on the rider, and only the toughest riders complete the race.

These are much like the monsters that social services in our country must conquer every day. Rata Social Services NPC has been in existence for 75 years, but due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the threat of reduced government subsidies, their monsters are growing larger and larger. Rata focuses on the protection of neglected, mistreated, and sexually molested children – children who must fight their own monsters every day. During the past year alone, Rata’s 40 social workers reached more than 40 000 individuals, rendered almost 20 000 people financial assistance, and provided foster care to approximately 1 500 children. All this while it costs about R10 000 per child for the process of protection, investigation, assessment, therapy, and court reports to remove a child from the monster circumstances and place him or her in foster care.

Alphonso Theron decided to tackle these two monsters. He is 61 years old and has been cycling for 22 years. He has done the Cape Town Cycle Tour (previously the Cape Argus race) 18 times, the 947 Ride Joburg 10 times, as well as various other road cycle races. But he has now decided to tackle the greatest monster of a challenge: The Munga. He wants to complete The Munga – for Rata and the children who fight their monsters so bravely.

Do you feel up to riding The Munga? Are you willing to help ensure the safety of thousands of children? Or are you willing to help Alphonso and Rata do it on your behalf?

To tame the monster of Rata’s financial shortfall, Alphonso aims at collecting R1 000 000 – 1 000 individuals or organisations each donating R1 000.

That is Alphonso and Rata’s monster challenge to you: Be ONE in a thousand!

1 000 x R1 000 = R1 000 000

Reach deep into your pockets, contribute to something big – before the opportunity is gone!
