Since the president has announced a lockdown period in our country, a lot of businesses could not afford to pay their workers. The lockdown has effected our coummunity more than initially anticipated. RATA Social Services as an essential service had several opportunities to hand out food parcels to the most vulnerable people in our community. We have worked together with the department of social development to distribute food parcels within our working region in Witbank. Those food parcels gave hunger relief to a lot of families in our town.

To continue our work and to help the vulnerable people of our communities RATA Social Services was the beneficiary of a recent LIVE challenge of WeCan and managed to raise 3,5 tons of food products, amounting to more than 17 000 meals. This brings tremendous relief to the faith-based welfare organisation, specializing in child protection. The food products were sold online as a combo and consisted of a 6kg bag of fresh veggies, 2.5kg Maize meal and 1kg Veggie soup. The 361 combos purchased on behalf of RATA Social Services were distributed to the 13 offices across Gauteng, Northwest, Limpopo and Mpumalanga the past couple of days.

22 of the families that are clients of our RATA Witbank office recieved  food parcels that will put a meal on their family’s table. We at Witbank and our clients are thankful to be part of this challenge and for the opportunity to work together with WeCan.
