Have you heard of The Munga? The Munga is a monster – one of the most difficult ultramarathons for mountain bikes in the world! The participants must cover about 1 130 km between Bloemfontein and Wellington in 5 days! There are 5 towns and 10 water points along the route where the riders can resupply, but due to the vast distances and the gruelling Karoo, all riders are largely left to their own resources. The race makes enormous physical and mental demands on the rider, and only the toughest riders complete the race.
These are much like the monsters that social services in our country must conquer every day. Rata Social Services NPC has been in existence for 75 years, but due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the threat of reduced government subsidies, their monsters are growing larger and larger.
